Privacy policy

Here you can find out what data this website processes and why.

1. Controller and contact

BlueShip Media Limited
Kinyra 28, Office 303
8011 Paphos
Cyprus
Email: hello@ai2718.com

2. Hosting and language selection

The website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Requests involve technical data such as your IP address, time, requested URL, browser and referrer. We use this information to deliver the site, protect it against misuse and investigate errors. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in secure operation.

When you open ai2718.com without a language in the address, we use a local IP-country database to choose German for Germany and English everywhere else. No visitor IP address is sent to the database provider or stored separately for this choice. You can switch languages at any time.

Country data: DB-IP Lite (CC BY 4.0). Filtered to German IP ranges for language selection.

3. Public pages and downloads

You can use the public pages and download the workbook without an account or newsletter subscription. The book is not yet available to read; its page offers an optional launch notification. Downloading the workbook does not subscribe you to anything.

4. Account and sign-in links

If you use the member area, we store your email address, account creation time, language preference and sign-in security data. Sign-in links expire after 20 minutes and can be used once. We store a hash for checking the link rather than the original sign-in token. We process this data to provide the account you request, under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

5. Reading position and reading statistics

When book reading is available, your browser can save your reading position locally. This local entry stays on your device until you remove the website data. If you are signed in, reading progress and bookmarks can also be saved with your account, including chapter, passage and update time, so you can continue on another device. The legal basis for these requested account features is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

The reader can also send chapter and paragraph reading statistics: content version, date, active reading time, exit position, repeat reading and text selections. These records contain no account identifier or IP address. An IP address is used temporarily, for up to one hour, to limit abusive requests. We use the statistics to find difficult passages and improve the book, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

6. Clarity ratings

If you submit a clarity rating while signed in, we save it by chapter with your account. You can change it at any time, and it is included in your data export. We use ratings in aggregate for editorial decisions. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

7. Private feedback

When you send feedback, we store your message, category, chapter, any selected passage, time and the contribution terms you accepted. Only you and the editorial team can view the feedback. An editorial reply is saved with it. We process this data to handle your request, under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

8. Field Notes and book notifications

AI2718 Field Notes covers AI news and practical examples by email Monday through Saturday. News about the book is a separate choice. We store your email address, selected topic, language, signup source, status and confirmation time. A public signup sends a confirmation link first (double opt-in). If your email address is already verified through account sign-in, you can choose subscriptions in the account.

We use Brevo to manage recipient lists and send Field Notes. Brevo receives your email address, language, selected list memberships and unsubscribe links. Brevo processes delivery information and provides campaign statistics, which can include email opens and link clicks. Its privacy information describes this processing, subprocessors and international transfers.

Brevo privacy information

The legal basis for the subscription is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in an email or your account settings. This stops that subscription; it does not automatically delete the contact or the record of consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before it.

If you answer the optional question after unsubscribing, we save your selected reason, topic and time with the subscription. This helps us improve the newsletter, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. You can leave the question unanswered; your unsubscribe is already complete.

9. Service emails

We send account sign-in links, subscription confirmations and welcome messages through mailbox.org, operated by Heinlein Hosting GmbH, Schwedter Straße 8/9A, 10119 Berlin, Germany. This service processes the recipient address, message and delivery data. These messages provide the account or subscription you requested; they are separate from Field Notes campaigns sent through Brevo.

10. Website analytics with Umami Cloud

We use Umami Cloud, a service of Umami Software, Inc., USA, to understand how the public pages are used. It processes page addresses, titles, referrers, browser, device, language and approximate location. Umami uses no cookies. We do not supply email addresses or account identifiers as analytics fields. Account and newsletter pages do not load the analytics script, to keep their private links out of this measurement.

Our purpose is to improve the content and technical operation, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Umami is a US provider with processing infrastructure in the US and EU. Its privacy information and data-processing terms describe processing locations and transfer safeguards.

11. Cookies and browser storage

We use necessary session and security cookies for sign-in and protection against forged form submissions. A language cookie can remember a manual language choice. Reading positions may be stored locally as described above. You can remove cookies and local storage through your browser settings; this can sign you out or reset your reading position. We do not use advertising cookies. Necessary storage serves the functions you request; Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG applies where relevant.

12. Retention, export and deletion

Retention depends on the purpose: account data is kept while you use the account; technical logs support security and troubleshooting; subscription records can remain after unsubscribe as evidence of consent or withdrawal. Records needed for legal obligations or claims may be kept for the applicable period. Contact us to request deletion of data that is no longer needed. Expired links and ended subscriptions do not automatically erase the associated records.

You can export your account data and delete your account in the member area. This deletes its reading progress, bookmarks, ratings and private feedback. Newsletter subscriptions remain until you unsubscribe separately. Database backups rotate after approximately two weeks, so deleted data may remain in backups during that period.

13. Your rights

Subject to the legal requirements, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time. You may complain to a data-protection supervisory authority, including the authority where you live or work. Providing account or subscription data is voluntary; without an email address we cannot provide those services. We do not use these data to make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

For requests about your data, contact: hello@ai2718.com.

14. Changes to this policy

We update this page when the services or data processing change. The date above identifies the current version.
