Thomas Dahlmann

I studied business informatics and have a background in finance and IT security. For over 20 years, I have been writing books, building businesses and developing software. Finance and automated trading are important parts of my work.

Business automation is another focus. I use AI to automate workflows in my own businesses, develop applications and explore how it can help people learn and work. I live in Cyprus and travel quite a bit.

My books have sold around two million copies and are available in eight languages. More than 10,000 students and participants have joined my courses. Across my books and courses, I have received over 5,000 positive ratings and reviews on platforms including Amazon and Udemy.

Why I am writing Understanding AI

When I try to explain something in writing, I notice where my own understanding is still incomplete. I have to look closer, check my assumptions and put the pieces together. That is why I am writing this book.

I want to understand AI in depth and share what I learn along the way. Understanding AI brings together how the technology works, what we can do with it and where its limits and consequences lie. I am writing it for people who want to understand the subject, including those without a technical background.

The book is in progress. Here on AI2718, I also share practical learning materials and the AI2718 Field Notes.

Maat Journal is a journaling app I built with AI. I described what I wanted, worked with AI on the code and kept developing the app through use. That approach is often called vibe coding.

I use it to journal every day. That habit has changed my life.
